Fairbanks Alaska

The Alaska Highway eventually drops you into Fairbanks. By this time we had driven into Autumn, murdered more than our fair share of insects and been very grateful for the protectors I put on our headlights.

On arrival Summer, however, was having it's last hoorah and it was fantastic to meet up with and share a meal with our German friends, Sandie and Karsten, in their wonderful overland truck Ewald.

Fairbanks itself is an interesting place with a kind of last outpost feel to it.

Our main function here though is to prepare for the journey North!


An interesting point this far north is the lack of solar power gathered from the panels on the roof of my truck. The sun, out for a long time doesn't get very high in the sky. The Alaskan solution is pictured on the house below.
